Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation at AARVA
A doctor checks your pelvic floor and rules out prolapse before any laser is considered
About Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation
Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation uses laser energy to gently heat the tissues of the vaginal wall, with the aim of encouraging new collagen and a firmer feel where there is mild vaginal laxity, most often after childbirth or with age. Treatment is usually given with a slim probe placed inside the vagina, and some techniques also treat the vulva. Some women report a firmer feel and more comfort during sex, but the evidence for energy-based vaginal treatments is limited and long-term results are not known, and we tell you that before anything else.
Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation at Aarva is planned by Dr Shivani Malhotra, a practising GP who leads our skin, regenerative medicine and women’s health, and delivered in a private room in our practice on Midland Drive, Royal Sutton Coldfield, with a chaperone offered. It sits within our women’s health service, so the first question is never which device, but what is causing the change: pelvic floor weakness, menopause, bladder symptoms or prolapse. You leave your consultation with a written treatment plan with clear pricing.
“These are conversations that deserve time and privacy. I would always rather talk through what is going on first than rush to a treatment.”
Is Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation Right for You?
Likely a good fit if you:
- have mild vaginal laxity after childbirth or with age
- have already worked on your pelvic floor for at least three months, ideally with a specialist physiotherapist
- want a non-surgical option and are comfortable that the evidence is still limited
Probably not the right first step if you:
- have not yet tried pelvic floor physiotherapy, which helps many women on its own
- have heaviness, dragging or a bulge that could be prolapse, which needs proper assessment rather than a laser
- are pregnant, have given birth in the last few months, have an active infection, or have unexplained bleeding
Not sure which side you are on? That is exactly what the consultation is for.

From First Conversation to Follow-Up
Four simple steps, with the same doctor-led care from your first message to your follow-up.
Tell us what is bothering you
Request an appointment online or get in touch. You can describe it in a sentence, or save it for the room. Nothing you tell us will be new to a doctor.
See a doctor from the start
A GP takes your history, including pregnancies and births, menopause, bladder symptoms and medicines, and with your consent examines you, with a chaperone offered. We check pelvic floor strength and look for prolapse, and explain what laser vaginal rejuvenation can and cannot do for you. You leave with a written treatment plan with clear pricing.
Your treatment
You lie comfortably, as you would for a smear test. A slim probe is gently inserted and the laser is delivered as it is moved slowly along the vaginal wall. Most women feel warmth rather than pain.
We follow you up
Written aftercare and a named person to call. We review you at six to eight weeks and again at three months, and keep your pelvic floor work going alongside.
Why a Doctor Plans Your Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation
Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation at Aarva is planned by Dr Shivani Malhotra, GP, who leads our women’s health, skin and regenerative medicine.
We are honest about where it stops. Pelvic floor physiotherapy is the first step for vaginal laxity, and vaginal moisturisers and local hormone treatment are the first step for menopause dryness, because they are proven to help. Studies of laser for vaginal symptoms are mostly small and short, and long-term results are not known. The US Food and Drug Administration has warned about energy-based devices marketed for vaginal rejuvenation, and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists advises that laser treatment for menopause symptoms should be offered within research. Laser is not a treatment for prolapse or for significant bladder leaking, and if we find either, we explain the options and refer you where needed.
For some women, Radiofrequency Vaginal Rejuvenation, which uses radiofrequency rather than laser, may suit better, particularly where dryness is the main concern.

Questions Patients Ask About Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation
Cannot see your question? Our doctors are happy to talk it through at your consultation.
Laser energy gently heats the tissue of the vaginal wall without breaking the surface. The aim is to make existing collagen contract and to prompt the tissue to lay down new collagen over the following weeks, which some women notice as a firmer feel. How much this happens varies from woman to woman.
It is usually delivered through a slim probe placed inside the vagina, which is moved slowly so the laser reaches the whole vaginal wall. Some techniques also treat the vulva. The exact technique used at Aarva is confirmed at your consultation, and you go home the same day with written aftercare.
It is mainly used for mild vaginal laxity after childbirth or with age. Some women also report more comfort and sensation during sex. It is not a treatment for prolapse, and its effect on bladder leaking and menopause dryness is uncertain.
It may suit women with mild laxity who have already worked on their pelvic floor and want to consider a non-surgical option. It is not suitable during pregnancy, in the first months after a birth, with an active infection, or with unexplained bleeding. If you have had cancer treatment, pelvic radiotherapy or pelvic surgery, we discuss suitability at consultation.
Some women report a firmer feel, but studies are small, most follow women for months rather than years, and good comparisons with pelvic floor physiotherapy are lacking. We give you our honest view after assessing you, including when we think it is unlikely to help.
Warmth, mild swelling, slight discharge or light spotting for a few days are expected. Less commonly, there can be tenderness, irritation or a urine infection. Burns, scarring and lasting pain or pain during sex are rare but have been reported with vaginal energy devices. We go through every risk with you before you consent.
Most women describe warmth and pressure rather than pain. We check how you are feeling throughout and adjust the treatment if it becomes too much.
Usually very little. Most women return to work and normal activities the same day. We advise a short break from sex, tampons, swimming and hot baths afterwards, and your aftercare sheet sets out how long.
Usually a short course of sessions a few weeks apart, followed by a review. Any effect may fade over time, so some women choose a maintenance session later. Your written plan sets this out before you start.
Some women notice a change within a few weeks. Any fuller effect builds over around three months, as new collagen forms, and not every woman notices a difference.
Both use heat with the aim of encouraging collagen in the vaginal tissues. Laser vaginal rejuvenation uses laser light, while radiofrequency vaginal rejuvenation uses radiofrequency. Neither has strong long-term evidence, and we help you decide which, if either, makes sense for you.
Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation is available at Aarva on Midland Drive, Royal Sutton Coldfield, a short drive from Four Oaks, Walmley, Erdington, Lichfield, Tamworth and north Birmingham. Parking is available nearby.
Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation at Aarva is priced individually, with course pricing where it helps. You receive the full price in writing at your consultation before you commit to anything. It may also earn points in the Aarva Circle.
Come With the Problem, Not the Treatment
You do not need to know whether a laser is the answer. Tell a doctor what has changed, in private, and you will leave knowing whether it is your pelvic floor, your hormones or something that needs a specialist, and what will genuinely help.
