Profhilo at AARVA
Softer, better-hydrated skin on the face, neck or hands, without changing the shape of your face
About Profhilo
Profhilo is an injectable skin treatment made by IBSA from a high concentration of pure hyaluronic acid, the molecule that helps skin hold water. Placed through a small number of injections, it spreads through the skin rather than sitting in one spot, improving hydration and firmness and supporting the skin’s own collagen and elastin. It is used for dry, dehydrated skin, loss of firmness and crepey skin, fine lines and a tired-looking neck, as well as the backs of the hands.
Profhilo at Aarva is planned by Dr Shivani Malhotra, a practising GP who leads our skin and regenerative medicine, and delivered in our practice on Midland Drive, Royal Sutton Coldfield. Skin that has lost its bounce can reflect age, but also menopause, weight change, thyroid problems or medicines, so a doctor looks at the whole picture before recommending anything. You leave your consultation with a written treatment plan with clear pricing.
“Profhilo is often the first treatment I suggest for skin that looks tired. It does not change your face. It helps your skin behave the way it used to.”
Is Profhilo Right for You?
Likely a good fit if you:
- have skin that feels dry, crepey or less springy than it used to, on the face, neck or hands
- want your skin to look healthier without looking “done” or changing your features
- are happy to have two sessions and a top-up around twice a year
Probably not the right first step if you:
- have lost volume in the cheeks or temples, where dermal fillers may do more
- have marked looseness along the jawline, where Sectum Radiofrequency or AI Endolaser may suit you better
- are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have an active skin infection
Not sure which side you are on? That is exactly what the consultation is for.

From First Conversation to Follow-Up
Four simple steps, with the same doctor-led care from your first message to your follow-up.
Tell us what is bothering you
Request an appointment online or give us a call. Tell us briefly what you have noticed about your skin, or leave it for the consultation.
See a doctor from the start
A GP takes your history, examines your skin and explains what Profhilo can and cannot do for your skin. You are then given a written treatment plan to take away, with clear pricing.
Your treatment
Your skin is cleansed and Profhilo is placed through a few small injections at set points. It takes 15 to 30 minutes, and each injection is over in a moment.
We follow you up
We give you written aftercare and a named contact. Your second session is about four weeks later, and we review your skin against your starting photographs.
Why a Doctor Plans Your Profhilo
Profhilo at Aarva is planned by Dr Shivani Malhotra, GP, who leads skin and regenerative medicine. Every treatment is planned and overseen by a doctor.
On the face, Profhilo is usually placed at five points on each side, chosen to avoid the larger blood vessels and nerves while letting the gel spread evenly. The neck and hands are treated with their own pattern of points. Every injection into the face carries a small risk, and knowing the anatomy well is how we keep that risk low. Because we are GPs as well as skin doctors, we also ask why your skin has changed, from menopause to thyroid problems and medicines that dry the skin, and treat the cause where we can.
Profhilo can sit within a wider skin plan. Sunekos or polynucleotides suit the thinner skin under the eyes, Neauvia Hydro Deluxe pairs well with laser for dull skin, and Sectum Radiofrequency adds firmness without needles. Medical-grade skincare helps you keep the result at home.

Questions Patients Ask About Profhilo
Cannot see your question? Our doctors are happy to talk it through at your consultation.
Profhilo contains a high concentration of hyaluronic acid in two sizes, stabilised by a heat process rather than the chemical cross-linking used in most fillers. Once injected, it spreads through the skin like a gel, drawing in water and improving hydration. Laboratory research suggests it also encourages the skin to make more collagen and elastin, which is why the skin can feel firmer over the following weeks.
Profhilo is used for dry or dehydrated skin, fine lines, crepey skin, early loss of firmness and a dull, tired look. It can be used on the face, the neck and the backs of the hands. It improves skin quality rather than adding shape, so it will not fill deep lines or hollows.
No. A filler is designed to stay where it is placed and add volume or shape. Profhilo spreads through the skin and is broken down over a few weeks, so it improves hydration and texture without changing the contours of your face. Many people describe the result as their skin looking better rested.
It suits many adults whose skin feels drier, thinner or less springy than it used to. It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an active skin infection or cold sore in the area, or if you have had a reaction to hyaluronic acid before. If you have an autoimmune condition or take medicines that thin the blood, we discuss it with you at consultation.
Generally, yes. Profhilo works beneath the surface and uses no heat or light, so skin tone is rarely a barrier. Bruising or small bumps can occasionally leave a temporary mark in darker skin, which usually fades, and we talk this through with you.
Small raised bumps at the injection points are expected and usually settle within a day. Redness, tenderness and bruising are common and short-lived. Less commonly, there can be infection, lumps or a reaction to the product. Very rarely, an injection in the face can block a blood vessel, which needs urgent treatment. We explain each risk before you consent.
After your consultation, your skin is cleansed and Profhilo is placed through a few small injections using a very fine needle. The whole treatment takes 15 to 30 minutes. Most people feel a short sting at each point, and numbing cream can be used if you prefer.
Very little. The small bumps usually settle within a day, so many people have treatment at the end of the day or before a weekend. Avoid make-up for about 12 hours, and strenuous exercise, saunas and facial treatments for a day or two.
Usually two sessions, about four weeks apart. Very dry or crepey skin sometimes needs a third. After that, most people have a single maintenance session around every six months. Your written plan sets this out before you start.
Skin often looks more hydrated within a couple of weeks of the first session. The fuller result shows around four weeks after the second session, and it usually lasts around six months before a top-up is needed.
Both are injectable skin treatments based on hyaluronic acid. Profhilo relies on a high concentration of hyaluronic acid to hydrate and firm the skin across a wide area. Sunekos combines hyaluronic acid with amino acids and is often chosen for the finer skin under the eyes. Some plans use both, and we will tell you which suits your skin.
Profhilo is available at Aarva on Midland Drive, Royal Sutton Coldfield, a short drive from Four Oaks, Walmley, Erdington, Lichfield, Tamworth and north Birmingham. Parking is available nearby.
Profhilo at Aarva is priced individually, with course pricing where it helps. The final price depends on the areas treated, and you receive it in writing at your consultation before you commit to anything.
